How do I answer this question in Spanish ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estudias español?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estudias español? Since when do you study Spanish?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^^ As jazy said, ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estudias español? means For how long have you studied Spanish? Then you answer For so and so...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The literal translation of this question is: How much time does it make that you have been studying (are studying) Spanish? Better: For how long have you been studying Spanish? You would answer the question beginning with the word "Hace" followed by the time element, "que" and then your verb in the present tense (in this case). A sample answer might be: Hace dos semanas que estudio español. Literally, "It makes 2 weeks that I have been studying Spanish." Better: " I have been studying Spanish for 2 weeks." Now try answering this question for practice: ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que tocas la guitarra?
