how: kx+8=5x equals 8/5-k? -4(2x+1)-(x-2)=-11 equals 1?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

\[kx + 8 = 5x\] subtract kx from both sides \[\implies 8 = 5x - kx\] factor out x.. \[\implies 8 = x(5-k)\] then, lastly, dividie both sides by 5-k does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, what about the second one??

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

just expand it and distribute \[\implies -8x - 4 - x + 2 = -11\] solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :) , second one i mistakenly had -2 instead of +2 that's why i get -7/9 as an answer

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i see
