What is the physical significance of Eigen Vector and Eigen Value?

I think that far from the physical significance, eigen value gives us more comfortable tools when we investigate the quantum physics(same goes eigen vector). actually , you know, just with the equation like einstein or Schrodinger , it take too much time to calculate and waste of paper, waste of time i think (because of it's crazy term).
so the reason we use , maybe same as above, eigen vector and eigen value is for the comfortance. maybe you learned eigen value, there's some value by reducing some formulas. that value is different from situation. For example, think about the hydrogen model. maybe you will get sense

in quantum mechanics physical properties such as momentum is represented by operators!!and eigen value gives its physical quantity

Eigen vectors and eigen values are actually pretty cool and interesting. You trace it forward in to quantum mechanics . or as it would relate backwards into  Trig,     
functions. I think it interelates into signals and waveforms.   Thanks Wiki. follow it either way.
