Which inequality is graphed? y > |x + 4| – 2 y < |x – 4| – 2 y > |x + 4| + 2 y < |x – 4| + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (andriod09):

what is the rule about inequality? do you know it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.

OpenStudy (andriod09):

okay, Rule #1: Inequalities that are grater than or equal to, shade up, Rule #2: Inequalities that are less than or equal to shade down. Have you solved any of the equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how :c

OpenStudy (andriod09):

How come you have these problems than?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do online school. So they just give me random questions

OpenStudy (andriod09):

ahh, so your homeschooled?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Unfortunately!

OpenStudy (andriod09):

There is nothing wrong with being homeschooled, except maybe your social life. :] im homwschooled too. lol. anyy wayyy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhhhhh. Well I'm not used to it! Lol. I just started this year, it's my like second week. I went to public school all my life so it's a big adjustment.

OpenStudy (andriod09):

same here I am doing the Life of Fred math series, you should try it. :].

OpenStudy (andriod09):

ok, do you know about absolute values?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (andriod09):

So then make then abosolutes and solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat Confused

OpenStudy (andriod09):

absolute value = |x+4|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I figured it out, I had to set the absolute value to equal zero in which I found the vertex, which is 2, 4

OpenStudy (andriod09):

but when you absolute the vaule, it becomes a positive number, and 0 is neither positive nor negative, :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's what my teacher told me to do D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wtf

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The vertex of that given graph is (4,2)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The vertex of y = a|x-h| + k is (h,k)

OpenStudy (andriod09):

jim, im a freshman, in honours algebra, and that makes no sense. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Algebra 1?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

y = a|x-h| + k is the general form of an absolute value equation

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

And the vertex is (h,k)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Ex: y = a|x-h| + k Let a = 2, h = 3 and k = 5 to get y = 2|x-3|+5 The vertex of y = 2|x-3|+5 is (3,5)
