How many diagonals can be drawn from one vertex of a 12-sided polygon? (show work)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try and draw it......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did and it didnt come out right

|dw:1347317995628:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't draw to the immediate right and left but you can to all the others...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does that mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A diagonal is a line connecting 2 vertices so you can't draw to the immediate right and left vertices because they are already there, the sides of the polygon. You can draw to all the other vertices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but its hard to draw a 12 sided polygon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i keep messing up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You don't need to draw the whole thing, you only need to see a few and you will get the answer (think about it)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 8 diagonals?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get that?
