well the abosolute value of the number is the magnitude of the number so the absolute value of -5 = 5 and the absolute value of 5 is 5. generally absolute value of a negative number is the number without the negative where as the absolute value of a positive number is just the number.

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

in short, the absolute value of a number is the positive value of that number, for example, the absolute value of -4, denoted by |-4| is 4, and the absolute value of 4 is 4.. we can also see the absolute value as a distance... the absolute value of -5, is the distance between -5 and zero..

thnks that was helpful

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to convert negative no. in positive like l-5l = +5

OpenStudy (andriod09):

absolute value: all you do is change it to a positive number. |-1|=|1|
