An electron enters midway through a uniform electric field of 198 N/C at an initial velocity of 416 m/s, as shown in the diagram. If the plates are separated by a distance of 2.02 cm, how far along the x-axis will the electron hit the bottom plate.

I have an anwer, but for some reason i'm feeling it doesn't make sense... and that's not good cuz i'm learning this too and i can't even remember how exactly xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well any help is fine with me :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see do i have to convert any numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well everything seems alright as given. But i just ran another vertical displacement equation and if we substitute in the horizontal d i just found above, it doesn't reach the plate... so the above is not correct..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i tried it out :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this like an online thing where it tells you if you're right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, well let's work through this, it'll help us both. First we should find the acceleration of the electron, obviously in the y direction.
