Which is bigger the funds for the research concerning AIDS and Cancer (all types) or Weight Loss
It depends on what you define as "legitimate research." Weight loss has broader mass appeal than AIDS and cancer research and quite a few for profits throw quite a bit of money at developing quack treatments for it. You should also be careful about how you chose to define the scope of "AIDS and cancer research." Does it include only immediate, translational research aimed at developing clinical procedures for treatment of cancer? Does it include research done on cancer cells in vivo? Does it include basic research - such as molecular biologists working on cell cycle control in general, given that loss of cell cycle control is one of the defining characteristics of cancer cells? Does it involve basic research into protein disorder, given that protein disorder contributes at the molecular level to certain kinds of cancer? Depending on how you define "AIDS and cancer research" it could be a relatively modest field. Or you could include pretty much every grant in life science given by the NIH, NSF and other governments and companies in all of molecular biology, plus all the private funding from drug research and development and hospitals trying to actually implement cures.
thanks XD
