Why do woodlice (Rollie pollies) like the dark?

They prefer the dark due to low predation levels and dark areas also tend to be cool with a tinge of humidity. Since woodlice don't have any waterproof mechanisms on the outside of their bodies to reduce water loss, the humidity aids in prevention of woodlice becoming desiccated (dried out).
