How do I solve this? Point G is the centroid of the triangle. The length of BG = 6. http://assets.openstudy.com/updates/attachments/4fe68280e4b02c91101b2f36-jahempress-1340506763450-image.gif What is the length of BE? A. 3 B. 6 C. 8 D. 9

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

Hint: BG:GE = 2: 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??? i'm new to working with centroids, what does that mean? if u don't mind explaining...

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

if G is the centroid then BG = 2 * GE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, so then does that mean I just add 2 to 6 to get my answer, is that really all u have to do?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

no the * means times length of BG = twice length of GE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, okay... so then what do u do next, do u times the 6 with the 2? im a little confused...

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

bg = 6 and its twice the size of ge so ge = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, the answer would be 9 right?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

because ge + bg = be 3 + 6 = 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, im gonna have to work some more, this is literally the first lesson on centroids for me, still learning... thanks for your help! :)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yw
