A right angle is divided into 3 angles in the ratio of 1:2:3. Find the measure of each angle... Pleaseee help :)))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello :) can you help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay help away lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. now if we look at the ratios, you can see that the first angle we can call x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the next angle has a ratio of 2 to 1 of the first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is mathematicalese for the next angle is twice as big as the first. ok so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah im decent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what might you be able to say about the third angle compared to the first angle, which we are saying has a measure of x degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

+1 for "mathematicalese"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tx. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I sometimes like to say, "mathematical lingo, or 'mumbo-jumbo' for short." But anyway, yeah, three angles that add up to 90º

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so tutu, do you see that if we call the measure of the first angle x, then the measure of the second angle is 2x, so the third angle would measure....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you still there tutu?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

questions are good if you are having difficulty.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hopefully, you will be able to see that the ratio is a confusing way to break the angle into 6 parts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the equation you need to solve is x+2x+3x=90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i hope this helps you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im soo sorry my connection went bad. but i understand what you did.. im just lost on the solving that eqation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+2x+3x=90 combine like terms on the left hand side of the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that will be 6x=90?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@juantweaver is that right? 6x=90?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perfect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divide it and x=15?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divide both sides by 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this gives you x (which is just one of the angles), you also have to find the other two angles, which are 2*x and 3*x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ughhhh i'm really confused like i dont know what im doing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have three angles. Their measures are x, 2x, and 3x. You have solved for x, which is 15. So that is the answer for the first measurement. How can you solve for the other two angle measurements.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not that to be specific.. I'm talking about EVERYTHING like im confused with the whole problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are a lot of math concepts being used here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you want to start at the beginning?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i know.. and Yes please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, let's draw a picture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1347508619373:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get this drawing from the statement that the angles of a triangle are in the ratio of 1:2:3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what a ratio is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt it the ratio given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i was wondering if you knew what a ratio was?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh lol yeah i do.. its the quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one value contains or is contained within the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright so this is how we get the variables for the triangle that I drew.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you follow that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i see that.
