What is displacement? How is it different from distance? What is velocity? what are the units of velocity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Displacement is using one substance in a closed system to perform work . Such as air or hydraulic oil in a piston being used to move a piston on a forklift.. Or air in a piston to move something on a carnival ride.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The better way to describe the difference between displacement and distance is here. 1) Displacement is the directed line segment between initial and final position of a moving body. 2) Distance is the total length of path traversed by the moving body irrespective of direction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@abannavong displacement is the shortest distance covered by a body in a particular direction..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whereas distance is the actual length b/w two points without any direction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

velocity is the rate of change of displacement. unit is m/s
