OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

LGBARIDDLE: An island is only inhabited by liars and truth-tellers. On the island, you meet Elgee, Sallote and Bah. Determine what Elgee, Sallote and Bah are based on what they say: Elgee: Both Bah and Sallote are liars Bah: Elgee and Sallote are liars Sallote: Both Elgee and Bah are truth tellers

Parth (parthkohli):

lol

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

the art of discrete mathematics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LGBASALLOTE is a liar AND SAURAVSHAKYA is the truth-teller

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

ironic for a math hater..but still

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sallote is surely a liar

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

ouch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bah => truth teller sallote=> truth teller elgee => liar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

doesn't look right tho i dont like discrete maths

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sallote is surely a liar @Omniscience

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how so

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

he dislikes me

OpenStudy (experimentx):

Elgee, Bah one of them is a truth teller.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because if he is truth-teller all are truth teller

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at his statement

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

this is where liberal arts skills mix with math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep....... agreed with @experimentX anyone of them Elgee or Bah is truth teller and the rest are liars

OpenStudy (experimentx):

Both <-- does that make any sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ya was thinking on that

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

no more guesses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess this statement is not grammatically correct "Both Bah and Sallote are liars"

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

do you think it should be "Both Bah and Sallote is"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YEP

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not good at english

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is wont make sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

according to the other statements; the middle one should be: Bah: Both Elgee and Sallote are liars

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

very perceptive...let's see if you can apply that..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the was a grammatical error tho or something tricky in it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was a*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WHAT! ELGEE, BAH AND SALLOTE IS A SINGLE PERSON...... its LGBASALLOTE

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol. too simple

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

shall i give the answer now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YEs PLZ

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no please

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@Omniscience still wants to try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can send me a message

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bah is a liar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it something wit elgee's statement containing "both" and Bah's not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean elgee is a liar

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

note: remember to provide explanations with answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I got it.......... thanx @lgbasallote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my explanation is stupid tho; so im not going to say it

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

say it still...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

im curious

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

sure3

OpenStudy (experimentx):

truth tells do not contradict what they say ... all of them could be liars ... that is also one possibility.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i wonder if @hartnn can solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@experimentX u sure.. I dont think all can be liar

hartnn (hartnn):

at first try i am getting that all of them are liars....i m giving 2nd thoughts..,now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lgbasallote was my reason wrong.... THAT THIS QUESTION IS RELATED TO THE PREVIOUS ONE

OpenStudy (experimentx):

the question doesn't say that there should be atleast one truth teller.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, BAH is the only truth-teller

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

well it's the same characters and setting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As the name of the person are same

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what kind of reasoning is that

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

should i spill the answer and explanation now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess yes

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

leme try : Elgee, Sallote -->liars and Bah -->truth teller.. ??

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SAid the same @shubhamsrg

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

1 min,,leme explain..

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

sure

hartnn (hartnn):

on 2nd thoughts,i m getting only BAH as truth tellers...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yeah right

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

^sarcasm

hartnn (hartnn):

oh, every1 is saying same thing....

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

bandwagon effect

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

i'll denote Elgee, Sallote and Bah by E,S and B respectively :P case 1: if E speaks truth ,,both B and S are liars.. thus since B is lying E and S both should be truth tellers.. -->contradiction case 2: since E cant be speaking truth,,thus E is speaking lie --> this is confirmed. since E is lying, both B and S cant be liars as according to him, either one or both is truth teller.. supposing S is speaking truth, then E and B are speaking truth -->contradiction which means B is speaking truth hence S is speaking lie..and this satisfies all the statements.. hmm..

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

term "both" is catch here maybe ..

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

very well

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

aha,,thank you..

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

"both" was the keyword

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

not much noticed that if "both" is a lie it means neither...or either one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since it was a LGBARIDDLE I guess my reasoning should have also worked.........lol

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i showed you the last one because it had the same logic for "both"
