Using the diagram below, calculate the length of GB if AB = 7 cm.

GB = 3.5cm ASSUMPTION: AB is a straight line. PROOF: Line segments KA and KB are radii of the circle, and therefore the same length. Triangles GKA and GKB are congruent by the HL (hypotenuse-leg) theorem of geometry. Corresponding sides of congruent triangles are the same length, therefore GA = GB, so AB = GA + GB = GB + GB = 2 GB, and GB = AB / 2 = 7 cm / 2 = 3.5 cm.
