a square room has a side of 8ft.. how many 6 by 6 in tiles are needed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the formula??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you can find the area of the room. Then you find the area of a 6 by 6 tile. Then you compute how many such tiles go into that room: \[\frac{area of room}{area of tiles}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the area of the room is 8*8 ft*ft (because it is a square) and the area of a 6*6 tile is 6*6 (unit*unit)? not specified (because it is a square too) so you get \[\frac{8*8 ft ^{2}}{6*6 unit^{2}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I assume that you're supposed to assume that a 6*6 tile is given in ft, so the answer is (64/36)
