What solve for w?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ye
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Add 7 on both sides
OpenStudy (anonymous):
then it would be 13=w-13

Nope
OpenStudy (anonymous):
13=w-14
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so w is 1?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
6+7=w-7+7
13=w
OpenStudy (moonlitfate):
w would be equal to 13.

Where?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
how do you get 13
OpenStudy (moonlitfate):
When you add the 7 to the right side of the equation, it gets rid of the 7 on that side.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ye and then what about the 6

Since you add 7 to that 6, it equals 13. So you're just left with w = 13.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ahh ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
better
OpenStudy (moonlitfate):
Does everything make a bit more sense now? :)

-11=b-9

lets see if i can do this
OpenStudy (anonymous):
minus -11 both sides?
OpenStudy (moonlitfate):
Close. You have to get rid of what is next to the variable (letter) you want to solve for. You have to get that letter by itself, so there is nothing next to it.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok so minus -9 both sides
OpenStudy (anonymous):
b= 20?

Add 9 to both sides. You have to the opposite to get rid of on the same side that b is on.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so b is not 20?
OpenStudy (moonlitfate):
b = -2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but if you minus a negative by a negative your answer comes out positive how is tht possible??
