especially if you know it has to equal a whole number .. like 3. then you can just plug decimals since calculators like those.
if you have a graphic calculator you can program it to do the quadratic for you for the purposes of checking your answers.
4(1/2)^2 + 4(1/2) 4(1/4)+4/2 1+2 3
4(-3/2)^2 + 4(-3/2) 4(9/4)-6 9-6 3
