Ray BA and BC are opposite rays, and Ray BE bisects

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me draw the figure the problem uses, it may help you. |dw:1347688724344:dw|

OpenStudy (aripotta):

Since we know that Ray BE is a bisector (meaning it cuts it in half) m<ABE and m<DBE are congruent. So... 6x+2 = 8x-14 6x+16=8x 16=2x x=8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I would agree with you on that, except when I checked my answer in the back of my (obviously stupid and frustrating) textbook, It said the answer was 50. I have absolutely no idea how to come up to that solution.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

now we can plug 8 into one of the equations. 6(8)+2 48+2=50

OpenStudy (aripotta):

:l sorry lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh...Well that would explain it.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

8 would be if you were just solving for x, but since we had to find the measurement of the angle, we had to find x AND plug it in

I feel a bit stupid now, thats simple stuff.. Thank you though! You've really saved me from ripping my hair out!

OpenStudy (aripotta):

lol no problem, and it is simple. just remember to reread the questions to make sure you're doing it right. that'll prevent future hair ripping out.

Thanks again :)
