Choose the answer that best describes the sentence. For the science project and presentation, Gideon collected rock samples and soil from local parks. A. This sentence has a compound subject. B. This sentence has a compound verb. C. This sentence has a direct object or a compound direct object. D. This sentence has an indirect object or a compound indirect object. **Please explain!! thanks :D :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the subject is Gideon???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this one is super confusing to me :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hint: ignore the dependent clause

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm pretty sure it's NOT b. right?? cuz there is only one feb "collected" am i right?? and what's a dependent clause again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*verb not feb haha my bad :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you can effectively say the same thing by stating the independent clause, which is Gideon collected rock samples and soil from local parks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i see now :) so pretend the first part is not there :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

exactly, that part is just extra fluff in my opinion

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's filler to make the essay/report longer (so you can meet those word count quotas) lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is the answer C. This sentence has a direct object or a compound direct object. ?? is it compound?? being 'rock samples' and 'soil'???

hero (hero):

I come to the literature section to get away from math and I can't escape @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh i see haha :D thanks for that! now i remember what a dependent clause is and that it does not matter!!! :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

muhahahaa...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha lol :D @jim_thompson5910 is like the bomb at math!! helped me so much!! and is helping me again!! and same with u @Hero i think u have helped me b4 with math if i remember correctly :) lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so is my answer correct?? is it C. ??? cuz it's a compound direct object (rock samples and soil) ????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:O

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it is, the items you're collecting are the direct objects the people or things you're collecting them for are the indirect objects

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so yay!! i'm right!! :D thanks so much y'all for all the help!! u guys are the best!! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 can u pls give @hero a medal for me?? i can only give one :(

hero (hero):

Why would he do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cuz u helped me so much!! hahaa :D right?? :D

hero (hero):

The last thing @jim_thompson5910 would do is give me a medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh and @nincompoop btw love the username :D

hero (hero):

That's why he ran away

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noooo haha :D i should get one tho.. :D and why wouldn't @jim_thompson5910 give u a medal?

hero (hero):

Ask him and find out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why'd he run away? haha :D he's still here :D (@jim_thompson5910 u R a he right?? lol) u helped me so much and i still don't know :D
