what does it mean to numerically evaluate? Such (4 x 10^8)^3/(5 x 10^-6) ^2 Does that mean to find answer or to write the problem out in long form; e.g. 10^8 =1000000000?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Numerical evaluation is just to evaluate using mathematical principles.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you just need to find the number answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I would just solve the problem like normal? e.g. 1+1=2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. That also may mean to NOT use scientific notation, as it isn't technically strictly numerical.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I am still a little confused using the example I posted could you explain to me what you mean by not using scientific notations and it isn't technically strictly numerical?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well scientfic notation will give a number value 2.56 x 10^36 is the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I confused I did the problem but I got 2.56^35 what did I do wrong?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I may be wrong... I did it quickly.... but scientific notation is a number form. Otherwise you would need to write 256 and 33 zeros... so scientific notation is acceptable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you campbell. I understand now :)
