silly question Why is x^2+4=0 x=+/-2i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I remember now haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=\sqrt4\]

OpenStudy (across):

That's almost right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Squaring i gets you -1, so 2i will be -1*(+/-2)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative sqrt which makes an imaginary number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys and gals

OpenStudy (pradipgr817):

@across how it is almost right not right?

OpenStudy (across):

@pradipgr817, I don't understand your question. :P

OpenStudy (pradipgr817):

@across I didn't got your comment "thats almost right"

OpenStudy (across):

I said that because @MathSofiya wrote \(x=\sqrt4\) when it should have been \(x=\pm\sqrt{-4}\).

OpenStudy (pradipgr817):

ok
