I'm working on hw1_written, exercise 1.13. If I transcribe the exercise in the shell, do I have to type the first two lines (pay = _____ and location = _____)? I'm getting a SyntaxError when I do.

In order for the code to work, pay and location would need to be specified as in the code examples given. This question is about code comprehension ie understanding what the code will do without actually running it.
Oh, OK. So I guess I'm trying too hard to make it do something. This has been my pattern all week in learning this language. Thanks for the answer!
