in this equation (f+g)(4)=4(4)^2+(4)-5=63...can someone help me figure out how to get 63?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is f ? is there any other information?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

63 is the answer i just can't figure out what adds up to get 63.

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

It's all in the order of operations. Exponentiate, multiply/divide, add/subtract.

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

\[4^{2}\times4+4-5\]

ok. i see now thank you!

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Just remember: "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" It's a mnemonic for the proper order of operations. The first letters stand for: Parentheses Exponentiation Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction Actually, the P should be a G for grouping. " Gotta Excuse...." We still don't know what Aunt Sally did to require a pardon.

ok thank you
