You nose out another runner to win the 100m dash. If your total time for the race was 11.800s you aced out the other runner by .001s by how many meters did you win?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

find the distance you travel every second 100/11.8 then find 1/1000 of that distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay... I got the velocity but I'm confused with how I get .001 of a second

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok.. so you travel 8.4758 metres per second... if you divide the distance by 1000 it will tell you the distance travelled per 0.001 seconds... so 1 x dstance/0.001 seconds is the willing margin... as you will by 0.001 seconds...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do you divide it by 1000 because 1s equals .001 times 1000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait so you won by .000001m?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

no you won by 0.0084758 metres

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay
