OpenStudy (haltiamali):

7s - 4 = 5s + 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Collect all of the 's' terms on the left hand side of the equation and all numbers on the right. To start, we want to move the 5s from the right hand side to the left hand side. To do this, we can subtract 5s from each side to get: \[7s-5s-4=5s-5s+12\] \[2s-4=12\] Can you continue from here?

OpenStudy (haltiamali):

I'm still confused..

Don't worry, what you're trying to do is get 's' on its own. To do this we need to get all s terms on one side of the equation, and all numbers on the other side. Can you see what to add to the left hand side to get rid of the -4 from the left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u must the variables on a side and the number on the other side: 7s-4=5s+12 if u put the number on the other side its sign will change 7s-5s=12+4 look at the 4. Before we changed its side it was - but now its + sign 2s=16 s=16/2 s=8
