What do you call the slope of a vertical line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Indefinite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

undefined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That sounds more familiar. Thanks @amistre64 (:

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im not sure if there is a distinction in math terms between indefinite and undefined ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

infinity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am trying to recall what they called it in algebra, but I simply forgot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it was undefined though.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

undefined is the most common one. Infinite is definiantly improper usage.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

slope defines movement, and a vertical line has no movement, much less infinite movement

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

is is infinitely positive or negative ?, we cannot make the distinction. hence the slope in undefined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! Sorry about the trouble, I'm rather forgetful today(:
