Research building codes for ramps such as wheelchair ramps, boat ramps, or loading docks. Choose a building code for a ramp and describe the relationship between the lengths involved using geometry vocabulary such as hypotenuse, adjacent side, and opposite side. Use right triangle concepts from this Unit to find any unknown lengths and angle measures of the ramp. Be sure to identify the type of ramp. Explain if the building code of your ramp makes sense and do the same for the other building codes posted for discussion. Discuss why there are building codes for ramps and how you think they are

All municipalities must enact building codes with comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act. Here are some specifications: http://www.access-board.gov/adaag/html/a … You can get building codes for any US municipality by googling. Because a ramp is a perfect example of a triangular structure (okay, this is not a 3-D concept but you get the idea), the teacher is having you solve the math problem by reference to real examples, not just by something s/he made up for a textbook. I hate to send you to Wikipedia, but it's a good place to start because it hyperlinks to decent sources you can use to explain the community purpose of building codes.
