how is faunal succession and the Superposition Principle are related

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Superposition basically says that in an ideal geological environment, the ground is made up of many rock layers. The bottom layer is older than the top layer because the bottom layer was deposited first. In other words, the youngest layer of rock is on top and it gets older towards the bottom. Faunal Succession basically means that if you are able to identify two same "unique" species of fossil that are located in two different continents and in the same type of rock layer, you are able to conclude and correlate that these two species used to live closer to each other around the same time, the same environment, and that these two continents used to be connected.
