What is another way to say you are "for something"?

I took a survey from some class mates about how they felt about immigration, and I was really surprised. Although some were for immigrants, most did not feel that it was right for them to be here because they weren't born here.

I was told to change, "for immigrants" because it didn't sound good.
Could you help me revise this sentence?
