Grrrrr, word problems. Two mountain climbers raced each other up the face of a steep mountainside. Climber A ascended about 500 feet the first hour and another 1 1/3 thousand feet the second hour. Climber B ascended about 5/8 of a thousand feet the first hour and 1.1 thousand feet the second hour. Climber A had ascended farther then climber B after two hours. By how much? What is the mathematical expression that will solve the problem? What is the solution?
Climber A ascended (500+ 1 1/3 of 1000) feet in 2 hours Climber B ascended (5/8 of 1000 + 1.1*1000) feet in 2 hours
That may help?
Now can u?
I have tried (500+1 1/3 thousands)-(5/8 thousand + 1.1 thousand)
Thats it
I have done the problem 4 times and end up with a different answer every time.
(500+1 1/3 thousands)-(5/8 thousand + 1.1 thousand) 1833.33-1725 108.33
Can you show me the steps you took to get that answer, please.
(500+1 1/3 thousands)-(5/8 thousand + 1.1 thousand) (500+4/3 *1000) - (5/8 *1000 + 1.1*1000)
I am going to try it, and hope I come up with the same answer.
ok
4/3*1000 correct?
NOPE
*Sigh* Order of Operations?
(500+1 1/3 thousands)-(5/8 thousand + 1.1 thousand) (500+4/3 *1000) - (5/8 *1000 + 1.1*1000) 1833.33-1725 108.33
DIDNT U GET THAT?
No, I got something totally different
???
I'm sorry, I am just not understanding how to get everything to either decimals or fractions to do the actual math.
OMG, finally got it. Thank You so much!
