PLEASE HELP A golfer, teeing off on an easy par 3 hole from point A, hits the ball to point B. The second stroke moves the ball from point B to C (on the green), ten feet away from the hole (point D. Write the component form for rayAB, rayBC and rayAD.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you have pix wid this problem.. could u post ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, give me just a second

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thank you :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so you want to find component form for AB

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

in going from A to B, you are going 12 units right in x direction so x component is 12

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

similarly y component is 5 so component for for rayAB = <12, 5>

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you can use this formula : \(<x2-x1,\ y2-y1>\) where, (x1, y1) is the initial point, and (x2, y2) is the terminal point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, that makes sense now :D

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ahh so visual thing, moving etccc didnt make sense ha ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're an algebraic formulas person ;p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

which ever works.. :)
