Very few people can read that today. The Divine Comedy was written in Italian around 1300. Beowulf tells the story of a hero (Beowulf) and his struggle with a legendary monster (Grendel), while the Divine Comedy tells the story of the poet's visit to Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. Hardly what you'd call events from the lives of everyday people.
