Real life ex. :Let a car move with speed S km/hr. Lets say it covers 40 km in 1 hours, 80 km in 2 hours , 160 km in 4hours, etc... so your data is : (1,40),(2,80),(4,160)..... now you can model this using linear function D=St where D is the distance covered and t is the time taken. so we have 40 = 1t, 80=2t, 160 = 4t..... all these give t=4 hours. so the function modelled is D=4S. which is a LINEAR function. Now, this IS a function, because for every different value of S , we get different value of D. If for same value of S, we get 2 different values of D, then this would not have been a function. But, D=4S is a function. Hope this helps :)
welcome :)
