Solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve |2x + 22| = |-6x + 6|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that x= -2 but what does the other part equal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is { 7, -2} but if anyone could explain it to me that would be great

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

(2x+22)=(-6x+6), or -(2x+22) = -(-6x+6)

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

hm ok I'm lost, both give us -2.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

@Zarkon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. i was trying to figure out how they got the 7.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

if you have an equation like: |x| = |y| then there are four solutions: x = y x = -y -y = y -x = -y of which only two are unique: x = y x = -y

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

|2x + 22| = |-6x + 6| factor out a 2 2|x+11| = |-6x+6| -6x + 6 = 2(x+11) or -6x+6 = -2(x+11)
