HELP!! Suppose you have a container divided by a membrane that is permeable to water but not to sugar. Side A has a 10% sugar solution. Side B has a 40% sugar solution. Both start out at 10 cm in height. Over time, the height of one side drops to 7 Cm and the height of the other side increases to 13 cm. Which side of the container is now at 7 cm? Explain
Water from side A would go into side B. side B = 13cm (about 25% sugar) side A = 7cm (about 25% sugar) this is because side b has a higher concentration of sugar and a lower concentration of water. When the two sides become isotonic the concentration of water on either side is equal. Water is drawn through the selectively permeable membrane from side A with a higher concentration of water to side B with a lower concentration of water. that is why side A would have 7 cm of water and side B would have 13cm of water
Thanks! do you know how active transport differs from endocytosis and exocytosis?
