A billiard ball with an initial velocity of 2.0m/s [S 30degrees E] strikes the bumper of a billiard table and reflects off it at a velocity of 1.8 m/s [N 30degrees E]. If the interaction with the bumper takes 0.10s, determine the vector acceleration of the billiard ball. Just draw the diagram since I'm familiar with how to solve it. Just don't know how the diagram SHOULD be. Include the opposite angle of the resultant.

I don't understand "S 30 degree E" . Is that 30 degree south of east or 30 degree east of south?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30 degrees E of S

I gotta eat dinner, I'll look at what you come up with when I come back (:

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

ok

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

Now you are supposed to find the acceleration. If \(\overrightarrow{Vi}\) be initaial velocity and \(\overrightarrow{Vf}\) be final velocity, you have acceleration, \[a=\frac{\overrightarrow{Vf}-\overrightarrow{Vi}}{t}\]and the direction between \(\overrightarrow{Vf}\) and \(\overrightarrow{Vi}\) taken in anti-clockwise direction is 120 degrees.. You can also think it as adding the two vectors \(\overrightarrow{Vf}\) and \(-\overrightarrow{Vi}\). In this case, you have to reverse the direction of \(\overrightarrow{Vi}\) and still the angle between vectors would be 120 degrees.. It would look like this:|dw:1348014030254:dw|

The first diagram doesn't make sense to me, which direction is Vf heading?
