9x^3(6x+1)+2x(6x+1).

If I said factor 6 and you said 4 + 2, that would be incorrect because 4 times 2 is not 6. 

Likewise, 9x^3(6x+1) times 2x(6x+1) is not 
54x^4+9x^3+12x^2+2x.

There is more work to do here to get the factorization.

9x^3(6x+1)+2x(6x+1) =    (Factor out common factor of (6x+1)

(6x + 1) (9x^3  + 2x ) =

(6x + 1) * x * (9 x^2 + 2)=   (Factor out common x)

x* (6x + 1)* (9 x^2 + 2)
