help:write as a single power of 5 1/125

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 1 }{ 125 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, all you have to do is find out what power 5 has to be to equal 125. Which is 5^3. But its also a fraction, so you have to negate the power, so its five to the power of negative three

thanks helped alot so sicne its a fraction the exponent always got to be a negative right!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup, only if the number in question is in the denominator. And if your square-rooting something the exponent would be a fraction for future reference.
