Which difference has an answer of -10? A) (-5) - 5 B) (-12) - (-2) C) Both A and B D) Neither A nor B

OpenStudy (cgreenwade2000):

Picture a number line. Or draw one. If you subtract, move left. If you add, move right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank! you

OpenStudy (cgreenwade2000):

Please don't set A for your answer. It is wildly incorrect.

OpenStudy (cgreenwade2000):

@msumner please use the number line system as practice and you will find your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its clearly not. cant add and subtract?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its the same thing with (-6)-3= -9

OpenStudy (cgreenwade2000):

Solve -12 - (-2) Well two negative signs next to each other make it into a positive sign so you're really doing. -12 + 2 Start on your number line at -12 and add 2 by going to the right.... which is actually getting you closer to 0. For -5-5 , start at -5 and subtract 5. (Move to the left, farther from 0) You should see your answer fairly easily. @TiaW , please don't give people false information.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so smart one it will be C. DUH

OpenStudy (cgreenwade2000):

Yes, but in the future. I'd let the asker solve the problem him/herself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@msumner no prob

OpenStudy (cgreenwade2000):

I'm not being a smart***. I was showing you how to get the answer if you're having trouble adding and subtracting negative numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya u are !!!

OpenStudy (cgreenwade2000):

Think what you will. But you got the correct answer through my assistance. I will continue to offer help to others who need it and truly wish to learn the information rather than have others answer the questions for them.
