-5x+3y+4x-2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help solving it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont no how to simplifly expression

Directrix (directrix):

If the instructions are to simply the given expression, then: -5x+3y+4x-2= -5x + 4x + 3y -2 = -x +3y -2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u get the answer tho?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5x+3y+4x-2 -5x+4x=x so, it would equal x+3y-2 all together

Directrix (directrix):

-x +3y -2 is the answer. Here's the work from above: -5x+3y+4x-2= -5x + 4x + 3y -2 = -x +3y -2. The only thing to do is to combine -5x and 4x into -x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-5x+3y+4x-2\]\[-5x+4x+3y-2\]\[-x+3y-2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be -x+3y-2 would be the answer

Directrix (directrix):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok no this one 4x+5y-y+3x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz '

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x + 3x + 5y - y = 7x + 4y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explan itplz

Directrix (directrix):

4x+5y-y+3x. ========= Look at the expression and eyeball like terms. 4x and 3x are like terms - they have the same "last name" of x 5y and -y are like terms - they have the same "last name" of y Group the like terms together, combine them according to the operation, and that is called simplification in this problem. So, 4x+5y-y+3x = 4x + 3x + 5y - y (note that like terms are together. Also, note that 4x + 3x = 7x. Also, note that 5y - y = 5y - 1y = 4y. Putting all that together, 4x+5y-y+3x = 4x + 3x + 5y - y = 7x + 4y. 7x + 4y is the answer.

one more can u explain 6p+3p+7z-13z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz

Directrix (directrix):

With two examples already done, I would like for you to post what you think you should do. In the problem, 6p+3p+7z-13z, the like terms are already together. So, combine them and let's see what we get. Be brave.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 6p+3p=9p then 7z-13z=20z then the answer is 9p+20z i think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

Directrix (directrix):

6p+3p=9p Yes, this is correct. Look at 7z-13z again. 7 of something minus 13 of that same something --> would that result in having 20 of that something. Or, think about it this way, if I owed you $13 and then gave you $5, would you then have $20?

Directrix (directrix):

* Typo Correction: Or, think about it this way, if I owed you $13 and then gave you $7, would you then have $20?

Directrix (directrix):

@jojo16 7z-13z = -6z ------------------- 6p+3p+7z-13z= 9p - 6z -->
