Determine whether the three points are collinear. (-5, -11), (3, 5), (7, 13)

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

The equation for collinear points is \(x1(y2-y3)+x2(y3-y1)+x3(y1-y2)=0\). Just plug the points in.

thank you

Directrix (directrix):

I tested the points against the Segment Addition Postulate. Distance from (-5,-11) to (7,13) = 12 Sqrt(5) Distance from (-5, -11) to (3,5) = 8 Sqrt(5) Distance from((3,5) tp (7,13) = 4 Sqrt (5) Because 8 Sqrt(5) + 4 Sqrt (5) = 12 Sqrt(5), the points are collinear. Note: Use the distance between two points online calculator at the following link: http://easycalculation.com/analytical/distance.php
