|8 − m| + 4 = 21.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(8-m) +4 =21 (8-m=21-4=17 m=8-17= -9 and second case -(8-m) +4=21 m-8+4=21 m-4=21 m=21-4=17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hence we have m=-9 and 17 as two answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yupp and the other answer is 25 :) thanks! i got it x]

OpenStudy (amorfide):

subtract 4 on both sides |8-m|=17 draw a graph (works with all modulus questions that i have done) you draw the graph for y=|8-m| and y=17 then you will see where they meet on the graph just remember that the modulus graph is a reflection of y=8-m and only has positive values you you will have two lines y=8-m and y=-(8-m) you may have 1 or 2 points where it crosses so your graph will look something like |dw:1348153065954:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow. its just an absolute value problem ahaha

OpenStudy (amorfide):

your graph is something like that you know that they cross twice you know that the graph y=8-m crosses with y=17 so you will do 8-m=17 -m=9 m=-9 but the other crossing point is the graph of y=|8-m| and y=17 this means that the negative part of the graph was reflected so you have the reflected graph which is y=-(8-m) -(8-m)=17 -8+m=17 m=25
