So, we actually had plans to implement full markdown parsing for formatting. Unfortunately, it broke quite a few things so we scrapped it. I think it's still sitting in a branch somewhere in our version control system. Unfortunately, it broke some pretty important features (namely, the equation editor) and we didn't have time to work around that. Getting the code blocks working was the top priority.

In regard to the "Safety proposals" - We're not going to be placing limits on chatting or abuse reports. Sorry, but both of those would do more harm than good. In regard to filing abuse on profile fields, that's possible. I've considered it before, but it just hasn't happened yet. Same goes for Edit Suggestions. We've tossed it around, but haven't been convinced it would end up being important enough to prioritize yet.
