OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the problem is who is good over word problem lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Those who figure them out!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice (:

Seriously though, one has to recognize the essential from the non-essential and try not to let any math anxiety get in the way. Patience helps.

Jane and Marie want to meet up at a park. They each walked to the park from their houses. Jane's house was 0.8 miles away from the park and she walked at a speed of 5 miles per hour. Marie's house was 1.1 miles away from the park and she walked at a speed of 4.6 miles per hour. How much earlier then Jane did Marie need to leave her house if she wanted to arrive at the park at the same time as Jane? Express your answers in minutes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start by finding out how long it took Jane to get to the park.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do I express that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then find out how long it would take Marie to get there if she left at the same time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would I make "x" the time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well time taken by jane took t= 0.8/5=0.16 hour= 0.16*60=9.6 minutes and marie took t= 0.23hour=0.23*60=13.8 minutes so i guess jane was 13.8-9.6=4.2 minutes earlier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at home

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(N miles) x (Z miles/hour). And Jasonxx, don't just hand an answer to a student.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you jason that makes total sense now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tcarroll010 my apology..i just thought it would be easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you anyways Jason

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(: YW @doctor_will617

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would you round that answer to 0.24 or keep it at 0.23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it depends on you ..if it is 0.239 then it should be 0.24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do I stop getting notifications to this -_-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it is the demerit of this...and you will be receiving mails too..unless you unsubscribe ..it will keep you bugging..i guess it is over and not to bug you anymore we should stop here lol
