How do galactose and fructose bond, and why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Obviously with a glycosidic bond, but WHERE?

sam (.sam.):

Well, you know that carbohydrates such as galactose and fructose formed when two monosaccharides undergo a condensation reaction which involves the elimination of water.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK- so it's always (except 1-6 bonding) the ledft/right corners of the hexagon or pentagon that join?

sam (.sam.):

Yes it is always 1,4 unless you are creating something different like RNA, Starch or glycogen.
