why must trig hate me.. The height of a cell phone tower, AB, is 250 feet. What is the distance, in feet, between the tip of the tower A and a point C on the ground? 250 sin 48° 250 sec 48° 250/tan 48 degrees 250/cosec 48 degrees do i use tan to solve or do i use sin?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

they gave angle A

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so we go to the corner A, and look at triangle.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

then, the side AB looks adjacent.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

and AC is obviously hypotenuse.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

which ratio has, adjacent side, and hypotenuse ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cos?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Perfect ! use it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so cos= 250/48*= 5.20833333333?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

before putting it in calculator, look at the options given... they are not numbers

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\cos 48 = \frac{250}{AC}\) \(AC = \frac{250}{\cos 48}\) \(= 250 \sec 48\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

remember these, while doing these problems : 1/sin = cosec 1/cos = sec 1/tan = cot

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats right ! its B..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

again :3

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :)
