Between circumference and diameter, wouldn't circumference be the independant variable and diameter be the dependant?

the circumference depends on the diameter of the circle. c = pi x d. so i think the independent would be the diameter and circumference would be the dependent

So say I made a circle with some string, pushed the diameter bigger, thus affecting the circumference. Since I'm changing the diameter, and then circumference is changing because of the diameter, doesn't that mean circumference is independant?

i don't think so. i think it's the other way, because that makes more sense to me. i might be wrong though
