How do you calculate derived uncertainty? In my chemistry lab, we measured the volume of a block once each with a ruler and a caliper, and the mass of it 3 times. We were also given the actual density ranges. How do I find the derived uncertainty of the densities by ruler and caliper? Ex: Ruler : 65cm^3 Caliper : 69.3 cm^3 Mass: 66.35 66.34 66.37 Ruler Density(based on average mass):1.02 g/cm^3 Caliper Density: .957 g/cm^3 Actual Density: .94-.98g/cm^3 Also, how do I find the % error for my ruler and caliper work? Compare the densities to the middle of the actual density range?
