The cost of driving a car includes both fixed costs and milage costs. Assue that it costs $161.10 per month for insurance and car payments and $0.45 per mile for gasoline, oil, and routine maintenance. (a) Find values for m and b so that y=mx + b models the monthly cost of driving the car x miles. (b) What does the value of b represent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let x represent the miles. The expretion itself: "$0.45 per mile " sugest that you write it like this: 0.45*x This would be the milage cost. To this you have to add fixed costs: $161.10 per month so: y= 0.45*x+161.10

so m = 0.45x and b = 161.10??? @myko

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m=0.45, b= 161.10
