Nadie __________(traer) comida a la fiesta, por eso nadie___________(poder) comer. (This should be in Past tense or Preterite)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. They want you to use preterite past tense in both of these blanks? I wanna start off with a question: Have you learned about the imperfect tense yet? Because there are two types of past tense, in Spanish: 1. Preterite 2. Imperfect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it says to use Preterite for both

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. It's a little different from how I'd do it, but if it wants us to use preterite for both, we'll do that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Let's start off by translating both sentences, with the blanks and parentheses: "Nadie __________ (traer) comida a la fiesta, por eso nadie _________ (poder) comer." It means: "Nobody __________ (to bring) food to the party, therefore nobody ___________ (to be able to) eat." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What we need to do is conjugate "traer" and "poder" in the preterite tense. I'll show you how to do both, in the preterite tense. Let's start with PODER. (Yo) pude (Tú) pudiste (Él/Ella/Usted) pudo (Nosotros) pudimos (Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes) pudieron ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And now, let's conjugate TRAER. (Yo) traje (Tú) trajiste (Él/Ella/Usted) trajo (Nosotros) trajimos (Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes) trajeron ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All you have to do is pick the conjugated form of each word that fits the blank. And now, the BIG thing is that when we're talking about "nobody," (nadie)..... we're talking about a third person, singular. That means we have to use the (Él/Ella/Usted) forms of each verb. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So, in the first blank, we've got "trajo" And in the second blank, we've got "pudo." Let's look at the sentences again, with the completed blanks: "Nadie TRAJO comida a la fiesta, por eso nadie PUDO comer." It means, "Nobody brought food to the party, therefore nobody could eat."
